Some days are better than others but today reminded me of why we do what we do. I visited a home that we weatherized two weeks ago and the homeowner was just thrilled. She told me that she was finally able to actually use her home office when the weather was hot. Her office is located in a room over her garage and when the temperature got in the 90s her air conditioner could not keep up. Today was different. Her office was exactly the same temperature as the rest of the house, a cool 75 degrees! This is the first time since she owned the house that she was able to work in her office on a hot afternoon. The radiant barrier and attic air sealing made all the difference.
Then, another homeowner sent in his utility costs for the winter months. His natural gas usage decreased an amazing 45% compared to last year. And this year was significantly colder!
Attic air sealing, duct sealing, radiant barrier, cellulose insulation, and sealed knee walls can make your home feel like a totally different place. The temperature is more even, there is less humidity, it feels more solid and quiet and the air quality can be greatly improved. This makes me love to get up in the morning.
I have signed up to have my house “sealed.” This is the exact problem I have had for 6 years and it is getting worse every year. My A/C has been running for several hours and it is 83 degrees upstairs in my house. And I have 2 A/C units! I am going to be very disappointed if I can’t get these same results. So looking forward to it!

Well… I have the day off for Independence Day today. It’s 95 degrees outside. I haven’t been able to get it cooler than 80 degrees for the past 3-4 years when it’s that hot outside. And the A/C never stopped running. As you can see from my previous comment on June 15.
It is now 76 degrees inside and the A/C is not running at 3:00pm. My attic is about the temperature my daughter’s bedroom used to be. Her bedroom is the “FROG.”
It is nothing short of amazing. Previously, I was thinking about replacing all my window or my A/C units. Replacing both of them would not have made as much difference as the service Proactive Energy did.
I’m not even concerned with the amount of money I will be saving, I’m just happy to have my house comfortable again.
In addition, if you are considering doing this, you have probably dealt with other contractors in the past. You know from your own experience how unreliable they are. I have been a homeowner for 20 years and have only worked with 3 who actually did everything they said they would. Only 2 would I recommend wholeheartedly. Scott Collins / ProActive Energy is one of them. He even came back on the holiday weekend to finish balancing a ceiling fan that at least 3 other contractors have told me they would do but never did. He did it because he said he would when I signed the contract.
I know this is a long comment, however, I could go on and on and on and on about how impressed I was with the work they did and the results I am already FEELING in my house! I will tell everyone I know! If anything changes, I’ll let you know that too.
